D-link Dwa-123 11n Driver
Hi, I have latest kernel 2.6.32-279.9.1.el6.i686 on my desktop I rcently purchased a D-Link wireless adapter model bDWA-123/b. They did not provide any driver for Linux nor have they responded to my emails seeking advice. Ran codelsusb/code to get quoteBus 001 Device 006: ID 2001:3c17 D-Link Corp/quote I went through url=and installed bkmod-ndiswrapper/b and ran the next few commands mentioned - the device did not get detected. Installing bdhcp/b, brt2870-firmware/b (some sites told to install this for my adapter), bkmod-compat-wireless/b, bcompat-wireless-firmware.noarch/b also did not help.
Now from this link url=i ran as root codegrep 2001 /lib/modules/./modules.alias grep 3c17/code and got nothing. Sould i install url=I thought CentOS discourages any changes - is the new kernel actually different? One more thing, previously i used to connect to the net via my mobile usb. After installing the above packages and rebooting the system even the usb connection went off. I unstalled all the packages previously installed and now am able to access the net via usb. quote Sould i install url=I thought CentOS discourages any changes - is the new kernel actually different? /quote If you install that alternative kernel, it will provide the relevant driver for that device in the form of the brt2800usb/b module.
So to answer your second question, yes! Remember you are not restricted to the use of one kernel. You can select which one to boot from the iGrub/i menu. If you are going to be connected via a wired connection, you can use the distributed kernel. If you need to use the wireless connection you can boot the kernel-ml variety. If you wish to use the distributed kernel 100% of the time, you will need to obtain a wireless adaptor that is supported by the default kernel. code ajb@Duo2 $ rpm -qa kernel.

I keep multiple windows open in multiple workspaces and it is a pain to open each window everytime. I think the driver required is bkmod-rt3370sta.i686/b as my adapter is bD-Link DWA-123 rev A1/b. The driver for bD-Link DWA-123 rev B1/b is bkmod-rt5370sta.i686/b which is in the belrepo/b repository.
Can anyone provide the driver or do you suggest compiling it? The maximum i have compiled till now is some software which i keep in b/usr/local/pkgs/b. No idea how to put stuff in the kernel. Or am i missing something? quote That is the problem - i just keep hibernating my system and generally only reboot if a major upgrade like a new kernel comes up. As you have already identified the iVendor:Device ID Pairing/i, b2001:3c17/b, you will need to examine the driver sources to see exactly which one, if any, of those that you have available provides support for your wireless device. As I have previously shown, it is the brt2800usb.ko/b module in the current bkernel-ml/b that natively supports the device.
Hi bAkemi/b, You hit the nail on the head! The module was not loaded. The moment i loaded it and then checked: codeifconfig -a/code the bwlan0/b connection was up and running. Right now i am using my wireless network. However blsusb/b still does not display the model number of the adapter.
Probably RALINK has not cross-checked that bDWA-123/b uses this driver. Thanks to you and bAlan/b. But this does not solve my problem entirely. I woulld like to use the default distribution kernel. Should i request for the required kernel module to be built by submitting a request url=? If you think that the issue is SOLVED, then please mark the thread accordingly.
